Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13-14 April, the 2nd Republican Calligraphy Festival "World of Wisdom" will be held in the Palace of Youth Art in Tashkent.

The art of beautiful, smooth calligraphic writing is an adornment of the holy Quran, ancient Uzbek manuscripts, architectural monuments of the ancient East, madrassas, mosques, and palace complexes.

Today, wards of the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, Tashkent Islamic University and the Kamoliddin Behzad National Institute of Fine Arts and Design are studying the art of oriental calligraphy.

It is believed that the Arabs used calligraphy in art, sometimes combining it with geometric and natural patterns, and revered it as a form of worship, because the Qur’an promises a divine blessing to those who read it and can reproduce it in writing.

The program of the festival will open an exhibition of works by Russian calligraphers, master classes in artistic writing, a contest-review of festival participants, a photo exhibition of museum exhibits of oriental fine art, various trainings and awarding of winners.

Competitions and expositions will be held in such areas as wood carving, ganch, copper carving, miniature, ceramics, gold embroidery, embroidery, book art.
