Tashkent State Medical University established
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A Presidential Decree “On Measures for the Fundamental Improvement of the Healthcare Workforce Training System” has laid the foundation for a major transformation in Uzbekistan’s medical education.
According to the document, the Tashkent State Medical University will be established through the merger of the Tashkent Medical Academy, Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and Tashkent State Dental Institute.
An Institute for Medical Scientific and Innovative Research will be created based on the Central Research Laboratory of the Tashkent Medical Academy.
The academy’s Urgench branch will be reorganized as Urgench State Medical Institute, while clinics affiliated with the three former institutions will now operate under the name Tashkent State Medical University Clinics. Branches in Termez and Chirchik will also be renamed to reflect the new university structure.
Academic lyceums formerly attached to the institutions will be rebranded as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Academic Lyceums of the Tashkent State Medical University.
The university’s mission includes aligning educational programs with international standards, emphasizing competency-based education, and becoming a leading hub for training highly qualified healthcare professionals and researchers.
Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, separate master's groups will be formed for instruction in foreign languages. Specialized medical centers in Tashkent will serve as primary clinical bases for student training.
All current students of the three merging institutions will continue their studies under the new university, and graduates will receive diplomas issued by Tashkent State Medical University according to the approved procedures.
A Development Fund will also be established within the university, financed through sponsorships and charitable donations.
