Tashkent seminar addresses development of arbitration courts’ activities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Development of arbitration system in Uzbekistan was considered at a seminar in Tashkent, on Wednesday, 5 November. Specialists from various organizations discussed the best practices of acting arbitration courts in Uzbekistan.

A joint project of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Uzbekistan and UNDP “Support to the development of arbitration courts and other alternative methods of dispute settlement in the Republic of Uzbekistan” (Arbitration project), Consulting Center MOST, Center on studying legal problems and Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH organized this seminar.

Representatives of arbitration courts, international organizations, Ministry of Justice, Supreme Economic Court, Supreme Court and other states bodies, as well as advocates, corporate lawyers attended the event.

The participants learnt experience of Samarkand and Andijan regions on organization of activities of arbitration courts, as well as mandatory implementation of the decision of the arbitration courts.

Shamil Asyanov, director of Center on studying legal problems, briefed the participants on the Law of Uzbekistan “On arbitration courts” and provided his comments on the law.

Shavkat Juraboev, manager of Arbitration project, acquainted the participants with the Arbitration Development Center under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan. He noted that the Center was created to improve efficiency of arbitration trials and other alternative methods of dispute resolution, as well as provide opportunities to businesses use them. Mr. Juraboev shared with recent statistics on arbitration which shows that the interest of entrepreneurs is increasing. The statistics was compiled from all partnering arbitration courts with the Center: 1623 cases with total amount of 34 billion soums were handled at arbitration courts of Uzbekistan.

Mirzaaziz Ruziev, head of legal department of CCI exchanged with participants two years of experience of the Chamber accumulated in the sphere of arbitration. He also noted that 14 arbitration courts are acting under the Chamber through out Uzbekistan.

Arbitration Development Center was launched in April 2008 within the framework of the arbitration project. The Center promotes development and improvement of arbitration and mediation institutions in Uzbekistan. It also provides opportunities for interested businesses and individuals to gain detailed knowledge of the arbitration-related legislation, as well as improves skills of arbitrators and mediators to handle cases and resolve conflict situations.
