Tashkent may see an increase in public transport fares

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  Starting from 2025, public transport fares in Tashkent may increase.

The Tashkent City Administration has prepared a draft resolution proposing a revision of fare prices. The document has been published on the SOVAZ portal.

According to the draft, the cost of a bus or metro ride will be set at 3,000 soums, while transporting oversized luggage will cost 4,000 soums.

For passengers using incentives for electronic payment, the fare for a single trip will be 1,700 soums.

When paying under plans linked to the number of trips, the cost per trip will be fixed at 1,600 soums.

The document also outlines a phased transition away from cash payments on buses. Discounted transfer fares within one hour of the first payment will remain unchanged.

The most recent fare increase for public transport in Tashkent occurred in November 2023, when the cash fare rose to 2,000 soums, while payments made by bank cards or via ATTO remained at 1,700 soums.

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, announced in October plans to fully eliminate cash payments on city buses. Plans include installing information kiosks at bus stops for purchasing QR-coded tickets and equipping buses with devices for scanning them.
