Tashkent hosts roundtable to discuss fighting AIDS
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent hosted a roundtable of organizations, which render services related to the AIDS or have potential for that, on 29 November 2011.

The roundtable was held within a joint project of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and UNDP in Uzbekistan “Continuing Scale Up of the Response to HIV in Uzbekistan, with Particular Focus on Most At Risk Populations”.

The event was gathered by all organizations, which render services related to the AIDS or have potential for that. The roundtable served as platform for analysis problems of people with HIV/AIDS and risk groups, and problems of NGOs working with the HIV/AIDS, etc. Over 60 people from NGOs, public sector and international organizations attended the event.

In 2011, Uzbekistan received a grant of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria to project “Continuing Scale Up of the Response to HIV in Uzbekistan, with Particular Focus on Most At Risk Populations”. UNDP is main executor of the grant.

Uzbekistan Women’s Committee is sub-granter of the projects and implements sub-project “Strengthening potential of interaction among people, who adopts decision and partner organizations for decreasing stigmas and discriminations of people with HIV/AIDS”. The project holds trainings of people, who form public opinion, including journalists and religious leaders.

The event participants discussed current state and global practices of implementation of the programmes on decreasing stigmas and discriminations, learnt lessons, role and tasks of civil society in preventing HIV spread in the country, etc.
