Tashkent hosts roundtable on raising financial literacy of population
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent hosted a roundtable dedicated to issues of implementing a project “Raising financial literacy of population in Uzbekistan”.

The roundtable was held on initiative of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan in cooperation with local and foreign partners.

The event was held within implementation of the presidential resolution “On priority directions on further reforming and raising sustainability of financial-banking system of Uzbekistan in 2011-2015 and achieving high international ratings”. The document envisages that the volume of deposits of population and individuals at commercial banks by 2.5 times in 2011-2015.

It is worth to mention that the volume of deposits at the banking system grew by 30.2% and made up over 26.1 trillion soums as of 1 January 2014.

Representatives of the European Unuin, international Financial Corporation, Asian Development Bank, GIZ and Finanzgruppe participated at the event along with the officials of the Uzbek ministry, Uzbekistan Banking Association, National Association of Microfinance Institutes and others.

Director of t he Agency for Developing of Financial Sector under the Central Bank Zafar Umarov briefed information main goals and tasks of the project “Raising financial literacy of population in Uzbekistan” and expected results.

The project is aimed at raising financial literacy of the population through promoting financial services, efficiency of financial planning, increasing demand of population and business circles to financial services.

It is planned to hold several events, including among elder people and youth, entrepreneurs, etc. The project developed materials on financial services.

The events, which will be held among population, will be directed at increasing demand for financial services, increasing efficiency of financial planning to increase population savings, expanding economic knowledge and stimulate entrepreneurship initiatives.

During the roundtable, representatives of state and education establishments discussed issues of improving existing educational programmes on increasing financial literacy of population and cooperation of financial institutes.

At the event, several books and brochures directed at increasing financial literacy of population were presented.
