Tashkent hosts Classic Music Night
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A musical evening titled “Chang – Qo’shnay – Bulamon taronalari” (Chang – Kushnay – Bulamon melodies) took place in Tashkent on 4 July.

During the event Shavkat Matyokubov and Ziyodjon Changiy performed Uzbek national classic music and pieces from the Shashmakom.

The founder of the project Husniddin Ato said: “Current musical event “Classic Music Night” that is arranged for the second time includes a program based on ancient national musical instruments”.

“The professional performers of tanbur, sato, dutor - Ilyos Arabov and Farangiz Ziyayeva performed in our previous event. This time we have invited the experienced performers of kushnay, bulamon, and chang – Shavkat Matyokubov and Ziyodjon Changiy. Music sounds differ when followed by these two types of wind and string-percussion instruments. We paid close attention to prepare a combined program of these instruments,” he added.

“We are planning to arrange such events once a month. Poetry and melody evenings accompanied by other national instruments, also concerts with other countries’ musical instruments for music-lovers are expected in our future programs.

“We are glad not only to create the opportunity of enjoying live performance of rich national music, maqoms for the music-lovers, but also to contribute to the development of Uzbek national music by spreading national instruments, musical heritage with the help of this project. Any cooperation offer for the development of this project is welcome,” he added.

Shavkat Matyokubov is a senior teacher at the Uzbekistan State Conservatory. He teaches traditional singing and traditional musical instrument performance. He has been to around 30 countries on music tours and has been contributing to the promotion of Uzbek national music.

Ziyodjon Changiy is a leading performer of the Maqom Ensemble at Uzbekistan Creative Association of Artistic Communities. He has performed Uzbek classic and folk music in around 20 countries and promoting Uzbek classical music.

The event was organized by Oxus Culture in cooperation with “Book Café”.

Oxus Culture, founded in 2013, aims at preserving, promoting and developing Uzbek national classic music. The project “Exhibition of Shashmakom” was organized by the initiative of this organization in cooperation with the Gallery of Fine Arts in 2014. Besides, Oxus Culture organized the concert dedicated to the 100-years anniversary of National Artist of Uzbekistan, Fakhriddin Sodikov, in cooperation with Uzbekistan State Conservatory and is working on many more cultural and musical projects.
