Tashkent hosts Central Asian Space Technology Conference

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26-27 April, a large-scale event for the global space industry was held in the capital. Uzbekistan for the second time has become a meeting place for more than 250 space specialists from 150 companies from 25 countries of the world.

On the local side, the conference was organized with the support of the Agency for Space Research and Technology under the Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Uzbekcosmos.

- Space technologies today are focused around new solutions for economics, research and data analytics. Our task is to involve Uzbekistan in the global community, - said Shukhrat Kadirov, Director General of the Uzbekcosmos Space Research and Technology Agency. - The conference program was dedicated to international cooperation and investment, discussion of new satellite technologies, security, finance, and regulation of the space industry. For our part, we are interested in the development of the private sector, as well as the "new space", we plan to sign several agreements important for the industry, including with foreign partners.

According to the organizers, the site is aimed at an international dialogue between the business community and industry space agencies.

“Today, Esri, one of the leaders in the space industry, raised the topic of geospatial monitoring from space, which is relevant for all the economies of the world,” said Sohail El Abd, director of international strategy for ESRI. - We discussed in detail with colleagues the urgent problems of space, and how the latest technologies can be used to support the government in various areas: the agricultural sector, climate change, national security and the country's natural resources.

Central Asia has significant potential in the global space technology market due to its strategic location, natural resources and growing economy.

As space technologies become more and more integrated into everyday life, the demand for them here will grow dynamically. I see how quickly my colleagues from Central Asia, including from Uzbekistan, are integrating new solutions and I understand that the region will reach global goals very soon. Now the countries of Central Asia have already introduced remote sensing of the earth in order to support agriculture and forestry, deal with natural disasters, and plan the urban environment. We are gradually integrating solutions for space monitoring and satellite communications. In addition, Uzbekistan can also develop its space technology market by developing cooperation with other countries and private companies, investing in education and research, and creating a favorable policy and regulatory framework for the development of space technology.

The new space economy is a global trend based on technological innovation and a specific business model. According to Euroconsult, this industry can already be valued at US$450 billion, and by 2040 it could reach US$1 trillion. This opens up new development opportunities for the automotive industry, tourism, energy, telecommunications, transport and other important industries - to increase their profitability or improve the structure of work on Earth or in space. The main source of income that the industry generates is the space-to-Earth economic model. According to a Bryce Tech report, in 2019, about 75% of the turnover of the global space economy was generated by satellite communications, the Internet, satellite Earth observation and navigation.

- This time we divided the event into several sessions, - explained Dialogue Director Yulia Romanenko. - In the first, experts will discuss regional cooperation, international investment and sustainable development of the space industry. A separate session will be devoted to remote sensing of the earth from space, since now this is the most demanded direction in the private sector of the space industry. In parallel, sessions will be held where market leaders will present new space solutions, satellite communication technologies, discuss the problems of spectrum regulation and current tasks of GIS in the digital transformation of countries.

This year the conference was sponsored by world leaders in the space technology industry: Turksat (Turkey), ESRI (USA), MonocoSat/SSI Monoco (Kingdom of Monaco), Contec (South Korea), Eutelsat (France), IAI (Israel), Synspective (Singapore). ), Hughes (USA), Intersputnik (Russia), Maxar (USA), Planet (USA), Rohde & Schwarz (Germany), SES (Switzerland), Airbus (USA), Thales (France), Voyager (USA), SI Imaging (South Korea), Satlantis (Spain), Axiom (USA), Viasat (USA).
