Uzbekistan 28/01/2008 Tashkent hosts business forum on private sector staff training

UNDP project “Business Forum of Uzbekistan”, the Tashkent Office of the British Council and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan organized the event.

Uzbekistan identified improvement of education system as one of the priority direction of reforms. The growth of economy requires large number of skilled labour forces.

Currently, about 65 higher educational institutions operate in Uzbekistan. There are also several training centers, train skilled specialists. However, local companies said in poll that the quality of training of specialists lacks.

The British Council office in Uzbekistan invited two British experts in the field of curriculum development oriented towards private sector needs. They made two presentations on the "Matching education with business" and "The role of the UK education system in increasing the capacity of small and private entrepreneurship".

Representatives of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Professional Education, Ministry of Public Education, State Demonopolization Committee, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, public organizations, a number of IFIs, and heads of higher educational institutions and private companies, including training centres, attended the event.

The participants exchanged views and gave their recommendations to improve training of skilled specialists. The outcomes and conclusions of the forum should enable government agencies, international organizations and private sector to consolidate their efforts in training specialists for the private sector.
