Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Institute of Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (under the Cabinet of Ministries of the Republic of Uzbekistan) in close cooperation with German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Asian Development Bank in Uzbekistan facilitated a constructive and lively exchange between different economic think tanks, scholars, and related government ministries from China, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Germany, and Mongolia.

Several key aspects of financial and economic crisis on key economic sectors were discussed. The forum was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Economy, Mr. Sunatilla Bekenov, with a note to foster strong relationship via exchange between Asian Transition Economies and the importance of learning from one another.

The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Dieter Benecke Senior Researcher and Economist who introduced the concept of Social and Ecological Market Economy to the forum as a resounding economic system which is flexible and sustainable with higher resilience in prevailing economic and financial crisis now and in the future.

Dr. Galina Saidova, the first deputy Minister of Economy presented on the successful measures that were undertaken by the Republic of Uzbekistan during and after the crisis. The Uzbek model which was highly resistant to the crisis and it was comprehensively presented at this forum. The success of the Uzbek model is one of the primary reasons for hosting this forum in Uzbekistan.

The scholars from many countries had a chance for exchange and learning on the measures that were adapted in different economies to tackle the crisis. The existing challenges in terms of innovation, regional cooperation, and the prospects of present century as an Asian Century were also discussed.

The participating countries had a chance to learn from each other about the challenges and the possible directions to tackle similar challenges in the future. The forum concluded on a note for an inclusive growth focusing and fostering on human development as close precondition to economic growth.

The Economic and Social Reform Policy Forum is held annually among emerging economies in Asia. For the last six years this event was a key attraction for Asian think tanks and has been predominantly held in China and Vietnam. This year for the first time the event has been brought to Central Asia, to Tashkent, the heart of the Silk Road.
