Tashkent forms the agenda for the development of transport and transit interconnectedness of Central Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26-27 October, Tashkent hosts the 27th meeting of the Working Group of the United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) on the development of transport and logistics connectivity in the region.

On the first day of the event, the meeting participants discussed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the SPECA region, methods to overcome such challenges, as well as national and international projects and initiatives in the field of transport infrastructure.

Representatives of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan exchanged experience in the field of effective organization and management of road and rail infrastructure, air transport and agreed to develop existing and new transport corridors in the region.

During the event, representatives of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe declared their readiness to provide technical assistance to SPECA countries to improve infrastructure, ensure road safety and develop international corridors.

On 27 October, as part of the event, it is planned to discuss UN legal documents in the field of transport, transport and trade standards, prospects for the digitalization of the sector and other issues.
