Tashkent Challenger: Dustov in last eight, three seeds sent packing
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Three seeds were shown the door, as wildcard and local favorite Farrukh Dustov scored a close but convincing 7-6(4),7-5 win over Kazakhstan’s former top 100 player Andrey Golubev, in the second round of the Men’s singles at the US$125,000 Tashkent ATP Challenger being played at the Olympic Tennis School in Tashkent.

Dustov scored his third victory over Golubev this year in 1 hour and 37 minute. Uladzimir Ignatik of Belarus hammered 21 aces to register the biggest upset of the day scalping second seeded and 78th ranked Flavio Cipolla of Italy 6-3, 6-7(0 , 6-3 in 2 hour and 4 minutes, Jan Mertl of Czech Republic registered the third upset of the day scoring a 6-3,7-6(5) win over fourth seed and 112th ranked Malek Jaziri of Tunisia in 1 hour and 29 minutes

Serbian Dusan Lajovic toppled seventh seeded and 117th ranked in form player Dmitry Tursonov of Russia 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in just over 2 hours to enter the last eight stage of the event.

Belarusian Davis Cupper Ignatik broke Cippola in the sixth game in the first set to win the set and put pressure on the Italian. In the second set both players held on to the serve forcing a tiebreak, the Italian Cipolla seemed to have found his rhythm in the tiebreak winning it at love and leveling set scores at 1-1. In the third set Ignatik served 9 aces and broke Cipolla in the eighth game to register his first win over a top 100 player.

"It’s a great win against a top 100 player the first for me . I was serving well and that was the key to this match", said Ignatik after his win.

In the second upset of the day Jan Mertl of Czech Republic kept his winning run at the event accounting for fourth seeded Malek Jaziri of Tunisia 6-3, 7-6(5) , in the first set Mertl played solidly from the baseline to break Jaziri in the 8th game and win the set 6-3, in the second both players traded breaks four times in the set to force a tiebreak, Jaziri missed two chances to go up in the tiebreak and eventually went down 7-5 in the tiebreak.

"I was really tired and have an stomach upset , but I hung on , the third set would have been difficult for me", said Mertl. Dusan Lajovic of Serbia scored one of his best career wins accounting for seventh seeded Dmitry Tursonov of Russia 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 and make the last eight. Dusan broke Tursonov in the 7th game in the first set and then served well to hold on and win the set. Tursonov seemed to have found his form breaking Dusan in the 4th game and looked like going for a easy win, but Dusan played valiantly moving Tursonov around to break back in the 9th game and level scores and force a tiebreak. Tursonov made full use of his experience to win the tiebreak and force the decider.

The Serbian who served 14 aces, returned well too breaking Tursonov in the 2nd and 6th games to score a easy 6-1 win."I’m thrilled and happy to win against Tursonov who has a great record", said Dusan after his match.

In the last match of the day Farrukh Dustov repeated his winning performance over Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan in a tight match, both players served well forcing a tiebreak, Dustov played some attacking tennis to clinch the first set, in the second set Dustov broke in the 12th game to win the set 7-5 and enter the quarterfinals.
