Tashkent celebrated State Flag Day of Azerbaijan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9 November 2012 the Azerbaijan Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev hosted a solemn event dedicated to State Flag Day of Azerbaijan.

The first Azerbaijan Cultural Center named after Heydar Aliyev was opened after an official visit of Heydar Aliyev, the first President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan in March 2004 and was founded with the purpose to preserve and strenghten diplomatic and cultural relations between two countries.

On 1 September 2010 with participation of the Azerbaijan President Ilkham Aliev, the State Flag Square was opened in the center of Baku. An elevation in the center of the State Flag Square, where a huge 162m-high flagstaff was established, allows to see one of the main countries’ symbols from any point of the Azerbaijan capital.

The Tashkent visitors of the Azerbaijan Cultural Center were able to watch a video version of the State Flag Square opening ceremony on a special large monitor mounted at the main entrance of the Center. Literary, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan Namig Rashid ogly Abbasov, repeating the Azerbaijan President’s steps on the video version to the music of military march, laid flowers at the Monument to Heydar Aliyev erected in the yard of the Cultural Center.

On 9 November Azerbaijan celebrates State Flag Day. The Azerbaijan flag was run up in November 1918. The Modern Republic of Azerbaijan left pre-Soviet flag, emblem and anthem of 1918 as its national symbols. The three-colored flag reflects the world view of the Azerbaijan people. The dark blue color is the color of Turkism, it reflects the Turk origin of the people, green color is an Islam symbol, red color is an aspiration of the Azerbaijan people to the progress and development, and crescent and eight-pointed star are the main country’s Muslim symbols.

Sabukhi Akhmedov, Second Secretary of Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan: “State Flag Day is a holiday celebrated annually by us. This is a tribute to the memory of those people who died in the fight for independence, territorial integrity of our republic, those who cherished the ideas of independence all those years, striving to it and in в 1991 Azerbaijan proclaimed its Independence. Our state symbols are the ones adopted as early as the beginning of the ХХ century. This event reflects not only the independence and symbolics of Azerbaijan, but also fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbek peoples”.

Upon the Ambassador’s solemn speech and background of the State Flag and Emblem adoption, the event was continued by a colorific and picturesque concert performed by the Tashkent Theatre of Music Comedy staff who staged a scene from “Arshyn Mal Alan” operetta and dances performed by the students of the Tashkent Choreographic College and “Azerbaijan Gyzlary” folk ensemble.
