Tanzila Narbayeva Presents Uzbekistan’s Initiatives at the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, is taking part in the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva.
The agenda of the forum focuses on the role of inter-parliamentary diplomacy amid global challenges, including social instability, armed conflicts, and climate change. Participants are discussing ways to strengthen international cooperation, ensure peace, promote principles of good governance, and enhance the role of national parliaments in improving living standards.
In her address, Tanzila Narbayeva highlighted the importance of the democratic reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, the development of parliamentary diplomacy, and the country’s efforts to strengthen regional and international cooperation. She also stressed the significance of the outcomes of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in April in Tashkent.
The Tashkent Declaration and two resolutions adopted at the forum—on the peaceful settlement of conflicts and the promotion of sustainable development—were recognized as an example of effective global parliamentary solidarity.
The Uzbek delegation put forward a number of proposals, emphasizing the need to enhance the role of parliaments in the peaceful resolution of conflicts based on international law and the UN Charter. They also proposed hosting the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Uzbekistan in 2026, in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
It was further noted that in September 2025, Uzbekistan plans to host an International Conference on Poverty Reduction with the participation of foreign parliamentarians, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and international experts.
