Tanzila Narbaeva: the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project has become the "event of the century"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - At the twelfth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Chairperson of the upper house of parliament Tanzila Narbaeva focused on the reforms being carried out in the country.

“In the complex geopolitical processes taking place in the world, against the background of contradictions and conflicts observed in near and distant regions, in the context of the coronavirus pandemic and the global economic crisis, our country is actively pursuing an open and pragmatic foreign policy,” said Senate Speaker T. Narbaeva. - Especially, without exaggeration, we can say that the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project, initiated by the head of our state and of great importance for the multinational countries of the entire Central Asian region, has become the “event of the century”. At the recently held first meeting of the Uzbek-Afghan-Pakistani trilateral working group, a "Road Map" for the implementation of this project was approved. Uzbekistan’s determined efforts to promote this project are also supported by the international community.

Since the countries of Central Asia do not have direct access to international seaports, the costs of international transportation and transit are 2-3 times higher than in countries that have free access to sea routes.

This project is of strategic importance in ensuring sustainable development of the Central Asian region and opens a new era of mutual and global trade and economic ties.
