Tajikistan was provided with 1.072bn kWh of electricity from Turkmenistan from 1 November 2008 to 1 May 2009.
According to a representative of the Tajik energy holding, as of 1 May, Tajikistan started returning electricity to Kazakhstan. "Every day we export about 5m kWh to that country. We must give back electricity to Kazakhstan in return for 88m kWh that we received from them during the winter," the source said.
At the same time, more than 50m kWh was generated in the country over the past twenty four hours while the country consumes 45.2m kWh, the source said. Today, the inflow of [water from] the River Vakhsh into the Norak hydroelectric power station’s reservoir, which is the largest in Tajikistan, exceeds 1,000 cu.m. per second.
