Issues related to Turkmen electricity supplies to Tajikistan is being discussed in Tashkent, Rashid Gulov, deputy chief engineer of the Barq-i Tojik (Tajik Electricity) open joint-stock holding company, told a Regnum news agency correspondent on 13 November.

He said that the company head, Sharifkhon Samiyev, has left for Tashkent to resolve issues cropped up on the electricity supplies to Tajikistan.

We recall that in October 2007, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan agreed on issues related to a transit of over 1bn kWh of Turkmen electricity into Tajikistan during the winter period. It was announced that the Turkmen electricity supplies would start early November.

However, Rashid Gulov said that the Uzbek side had announced that a part of a power transmission line from Turkmenistan to a substation in Uzbekistan has not yet ready to transit the electric power.

The Uzbek side is explaining the circumstances with a lack of necessary spare parts to restore the power transmission line.
