Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 September 2024, at the 57th plenary session of the Senate, a law was reviewed and passed aimed at amending and supplementing the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Special Economic Zones." The changes focus on improving coordination and simplifying the management system of special economic zones.
It was noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has undertaken consistent reforms to support small business development, provide comprehensive support to small enterprises, and attract investment in this area.
The new law introduces changes to the Law on Special Economic Zones of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including the dissolution of administrative councils for special economic zones, with their responsibilities being transferred to the directorates of the zones.
Additionally, the requirement for obtaining expert reviews of business plans or feasibility studies for investment projects within special economic zones is abolished.
The directorates of special economic zones will now independently decide on whether projects meet the requirements of the law.
It was emphasized that the adoption of this law will simplify the coordination and management of special economic zones, improve investment conditions, speed up the implementation of investment projects, create new jobs, and increase incomes for the population.
The law was approved by the senators.
