Suspected member of Uzbek Islamic group held in Tajik north
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A resident of the town of Isfara in [northern] Sughd Region has been detained in suspicion of [being a member of] the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) extremist organization.

The head of the Tajik Interior Ministry’s press service, Mahmadullo Asadulloyev, told the Avesta news agency that on 21 June, police officers detained Nurmahmadi Abdusami, who presumably was an active member of the IMU since 1998.

"An investigation assumes that after becoming a member of the IMU, in 1998, Nurmahmadi Abdusami got involved in a conspiracy with Anvar Kayumov, active supporter of this organization, who was earlier detained," Asadulloyev said.

He said that Abdusami was known among his associates under a nickname Ozar.

"Criminal proceedings were launched into this case. An investigation is under way," Asadulloyev concluded.
