Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan have detained a man suspected of the corruption of a 10-year-old girl.

According to the press service of the children’s ombudsman, the incident occurred on 3 June 2024, in Surkhandarya region.

The neighbor of the girl, taking advantage of the absence of adults at home, committed indecent sexual acts with the child.

The girl’s mother reported that the man threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

The girl managed to record evidence of the abuse on her phone. However, according to the mother, the initial investigation did not take appropriate action against the suspect.

Following a request from the children’s ombudsman to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was revealed that on 7 July, an investigation was launched against the suspect under Article 129, Part 2, Clause "b" of the Criminal Code ("Indecent acts with a person under fourteen years of age").

The suspect has been detained, and the case materials have been forwarded to the court.
