Surcharge on Mastercard, issued in Uzbekistan, to be canceled from 1 February

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The National Interbank Processing Center (NIPC) and the international payment system Mastercard announced the abolition of the commission for Mastercard cardholders (clients of Uzbek banks) for payment at POS terminals HUMO. Previously, the commission from cardholders was 1.5% of the total payment amount.

“With the cancellation of surcharge, non-cash payments will become even more convenient. We continue to create additional conveniences for holders of cards issued in Uzbekistan. Now every Mastercard user will be able to pay for purchases in the HUMO infrastructure as usual without additional commissions,” comments the director of the NIPC Shukhratbek Kurbanov.

Currently, holders of Mastercard cards can contactlessly pay for goods and services in more than 230,000 terminals throughout Uzbekistan.

“The vision of Mastercard is a world without cash, so we are doing everything possible to ensure that electronic circulation displaces cash from the economy, and that financial services are as accessible as possible for everyone. Uzbekistan is one of the priority markets for Mastercard, and we are consistently developing a cashless economy in the country and are trying to ensure that our cardholders have more opportunities to pay there, then with a device that suits them. I am confident that the abolition of additional fees will contribute to the further development of cashless technologies that benefit business, consumers and the country as a whole,” said Rafal Trepka, General Director of Mastercard in Central Asia.

NIPC together with Mastercard launched the acceptance of payments by international Mastercard cards in the HUMO system on 3 December 2019.
