Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, the Chairman of the Supreme Court, Bakhtiyor Islamov, met with the Head of the UNICEF Representation in Uzbekistan, Regina Maria Castiglioni.
At the beginning of the meeting, the guest was briefed on the comprehensive reforms underway in Uzbekistan aimed at protecting human rights and freedoms, including changes in the field of justice.
It was noted that the abolition of child labor, introduction of criminal liability for domestic violence, and strengthening the protection of women and children are significant achievements in this area.
The aspects of cooperation between the Supreme Court and the UNICEF representation in Uzbekistan were also discussed. It was highlighted that within the framework of this cooperation, a child-friendly room has been established for children who have been victims of crimes or witnesses.
According to the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 21 December 2023, "On Additional Measures to Strengthening the Family and Activating the Role of Women," "Family Judges" have been established in Samarkand, Namangan, and Mirzo-Ulugbek district of Tashkent starting from 1 February 2024.
The guest was also briefed on the work of the "Family Judges" and the types of cases they handle in family law, as well as measures to improve the knowledge and skills of judges.
UNICEF expressed readiness to collaborate in conducting trainings for judges dealing with family disputes and in enhancing their qualifications in this area.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of child rights protection for the years 2024-2025.
It was emphasized that the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of children in courts always remains a priority for the Supreme Court, which expressed readiness for further deepening and practical cooperation with UNICEF in this direction.
Other important issues were also addressed during the meeting.
