Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Baku, on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), a meeting of the Environmental Working Group of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held.
The meeting, which took place at Uzbekistan’s National Pavilion, was attended by the Secretary General of ECO, Asad M. Khan, Deputy Minister of Ecology of Uzbekistan, Obidjon Kudratov, and representatives from member states of the organization.
Participants presented reports on the environmental situation in their countries and discussed ways to strengthen regional cooperation to ensure ecological stability. Obidjon Kudratov highlighted the region’s vulnerability to extreme weather events and the need for joint actions to protect the environment. He emphasized the importance of developing ECO as a platform for addressing growing environmental challenges.
During the discussions, concrete proposals for joint environmental projects were put forward, including the development of renewable energy, combating desertification, efficient use of water resources, and biodiversity conservation.
The participants also underscored the importance of exchanging experiences, technologies, and enhancing scientific research on climate change, as well as the need for closer coordination of actions within ECO to effectively respond to environmental challenges.
