"During the event organised in accordance with the Presidential Resolution on 9 November 2005 "On celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the city of Margilan" the audience showed high interest in the rare items displayed by our museum, in particular the stone talisman in the shape of a snake, which dates back to the second millennium B.C.," said the Director of the museum Jannat Ismoilova.

"In 2003, for three months this talisman was being displayed at the exhibition of the museums of the world "The Art of Ancient Cities" in the New York’s Metropolitan, and was highly appraised by the international experts.

The museum currently has around 2,700 items. Among them are ancient wall paintings, writings, and other artifacts found on the territory of our country. The numismatics fund has ancient golden, silver, and copper coins, medals, and stamps.

On the initiative of the head of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, our museum was reorganized into the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan in 1992, and was moved to a new building.

Attention and care shown by the government allowed us expand the scale of our work. During the past few years, the museum conducted around 50 exhibitions. In 2006 at the international conferences in Paris, our photo-exhibitions organised on the occasion of the 1,000th anniversary of Khorezm Academy of Mamun, 2,700th anniversary of Karshi received a high mark. Now the museum is conducting an exhibition devoted to 2,000th anniversary of Margilan city.

In the framework of the reforms taking place in Uzbekistan, high attention is being given to equipment of the museums to comply with international standards, and provision of high quality staff. These reforms are supported by the Decree of the President "On the improvement of the activity of museums" dated 12 January 1998. Our museum has taken measures to create all the necessary conditions and comply with international standards.

Last year over 30,000 people, including guests from Russia, France, US, UK, Japan, China, Kuwait and other countries, visited our museum.

All this is the result of large-scale reforms being implemented to revive and develop national values, research and promote ancient history, bring up the young generation and cultivate the feeling of love toward homeland and faithfulness to the ideas of independence in people," she said.
