Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As of 1 January 2024, the total number of operating small enterprises and micro-firms in Uzbekistan reached 417,100. The number of small businesses per 1000 people was 14.0 units.

As of 1 January 2024, the number of operating small businesses per 1000 people was 14.0 units. and, compared to the corresponding period in 2023, this figure decreased by 3.9 units.

In January-December 2023, by type of economic activity, the largest number of newly created small enterprises and micro-firms was in trade - 33,470 units, industry - 14,101 units, other services - 9,921 units, agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 9,388 units, accommodation and food services – 5,955 units.

As a result of measures taken aimed at further improving the system of supporting entrepreneurship and improving the business climate, resolutions and decrees adopted by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for January-December 2018-2023, a total of 510.1 thousand units were created. small enterprises and micro-firms. It should be noted that the largest number of new entities was created in the trade sector - 189.5 thousand units. (or 37.1%), service sector - 123.4 thousand units. (or 24.2%), industry - 99.0 thousand units. (or 19.4%), agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 61.1 thousand units. (or 12.0%) and construction – 37.1 thousand units. (or 7.3%).

By type of economic activity in January-December 2023, the largest share of small businesses in GDP was in agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 95.6%, construction - 77.0%, services - 40.4% and industry - 21.4 %.

Regionally, the largest share of small businesses in GRP falls on Surkhandarya (75.9%), Jizzakh (73.7%), Namangan (72.8%), Samarkand (72.8%), Bukhara (71.7%) and Khorezm (69.7%) region. For other regions, respectively: in Ferghana - 69.5%, Kashkadarya - 68.4%, Andijan - 66.0%, Syrdarya - 63.6% regions, the Republic of Karakalpakstan - 58.7%, Tashkent city - 49.8 % and Tashkent region - 48.7%.

During January-December 2023, small businesses produced industrial products worth 176.52 trillion soums, or 26.9% of their total volume. In January-December 2022, the growth rate was 13.9%.

In January-December 2023, the volume of construction work performed by small businesses amounted to 111.91 trillion soums, or 74.7% of their total volume. The growth rate for the corresponding period in 2022 was 10.9%.

During January-December 2023, investments in fixed assets by small businesses amounted to 181.11 trillion soums, or 51.4% of their total volume. The growth rate for the corresponding period in 2022 was 30.6%.

In January-December 2023, the volume of products (services) of agriculture, forestry and fisheries of small businesses amounted to 403.97 trillion soums, or 94.8% of the total volume. The growth rate in January-December 2022 was 3.6%.

In January-December 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover of small businesses amounted to 273.44 trillion soums, or 83.8% of the total volume. The growth rate for the corresponding period in 2022 was 8.0%.

In January-December 2023, small businesses produced (provided) services worth 224.44 trillion soums (47.7% of their total volume). The growth rate in January-December 2022 was 9.8%.

During January-December 2023, small businesses produced industrial products worth 176.52 trillion soums, or 26.9% of their total volume. Regionally, the largest share of small businesses in total production was in Ferghana - 49.2%, Surkhandarya - 47.3%, Namangan - 47.2%, Samarkand - 44.6% regions and Tashkent city - 37.8% .

Regionally, the largest volume of industrial production falls on the city of Tashkent (46.77 trillion soums), Tashkent (25.11 trillion soums), Ferghana (18,054.2 billion soums), Andijan (16.21 trillion soums) ) and Samarkand (14.56 trillion soums) regions. In Khorezm region (3.44 trillion soums), the volume of industrial production remains low.

In January-December 2023, the volume of construction work performed by small businesses in the Republic of Uzbekistan amounted to 111.91 trillion soums, or 74.7% of their total volume. Regionally, the largest share falls on Andijan - 96.0%, Jizzakh - 93.9% and Namangan - 91.7% regions.

Regionally, the largest volume of construction work performed was recorded in Tashkent (25.98 trillion soums), Tashkent (11.37 trillion soums), Samarkand (8.3 trillion soums), Bukhara (8.28 trillion soums) ), Ferghana (7.86 trillion soums), Andijan (7.14 trillion soums) and Namangan (6.84 trillion soums) regions.

During January-December 2023, investments in fixed assets by small businesses amounted to 181.11 trillion soums, or 51.4% of their total volume. Regionally, the largest share of small businesses in the total volume of disbursed investments in fixed capital was in Syrdarya - 73.9%, Andijan - 72.0%, Jizzakh - 70.3%, Namangan - 66.7% regions.

In terms of regions, the largest volume of disbursed investments in the fixed capital of small businesses was recorded in the city of Tashkent – 23.14 trillion soums, Bukhara region – 19.79 trillion soums, Samarkand region – 17.33 trillion soums, respectively in Tashkent region – 17.25 trillion soums, Namangan region – 13.83 trillion soums, Andijan region – 13.09 trillion soums, Ferghana region – 13.01 trillion soums and Navoi region – 12.46 trillion soums.

In January-December 2023, the volume of production (services) of agriculture, forestry and fisheries amounted to 403.97 trillion soums, or 94.8% of their total volume. Regionally, the largest share was noted in Kashkadarya - 98.1%, Bukhara - 97.2%, Jizzakh - 97.0%, Khorezm - 96.3%, Andijan - 96.1% regions.

In terms of regions, the largest volume of products (services) of agriculture, forestry and fisheries of small businesses was noted in Samarkand – 47.97 trillion soums, Andijan – 41.59 trillion soums, Kashkadarya – 39.41 trillion soums, Ferghana – 37.5 trillion soums, Bukhara – 37.32 trillion soums, Tashkent – 36.3 trillion soums, Surkhandarya – 31.68 trillion soums, Namangan regions – 30.91 trillion soums.

In January-December 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover of small businesses amounted to 273.44 trillion soums, or 83.8% of its total volume. In terms of regions, the largest share falls on the Surkhandarya region - 97.2%, the Republic of Karakalpakstan - 97.2%, Kashkadarya - 95.7% and Jizzakh - 95.5% regions.

Regionally, the largest volume of retail trade turnover was recorded in Tashkent (49.87 trillion soums), Tashkent (26.24 trillion soums), Samarkand (24.93 trillion soums), Ferghana (24.73 trillion soums) , Andijan (21.23 trillion soums), Kashkadarya (20.61 trillion soums), Surkhandarya (20.21 trillion soums) and Namangan (19.56 trillion soums) regions.

In January-December 2023, the volume of small businesses amounted to 224.44 trillion soums, or 47.7% of their total volume. Regionally, the largest share falls on Tashkent - 69.4%, Kashkadarya - 67.0%, Ferghana - 66.9%, Namangan - 66.4%, Samarkand - 66.0% and Andijan - 65.3% regions.

Regionally, the largest volume of services was recorded in Tashkent (73.93 trillion soums), Tashkent (22.14 trillion soums), Samarkand (19.14 trillion soums), Ferghana (17.8 trillion soums), Andijan (14.22 trillion soums), Kashkadarya (13.07 trillion soums), Bukhara (11.83 trillion soums), Namangan (11.83 trillion soums), Surkhandarya (9.98 trillion soums), Khorezm (7.72 trillion soums) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (6.61 trillion soums).

In January-December 2023, the volume of exports of products (works and services) of small businesses amounted to US$7.1 billion, or 29.0% of its total volume.

For January-December 2023, regionally, the largest small business exports of products (works, services) were noted in Surkhandarya (72.4%), Ferghana (68.4%), Khorezm (64.2%), Syrdarya (63.4 %), Bukhara (45.9%) and Jizzakh (43.5%) regions. In the Navoi region (9.0%), the share of small businesses in the export of products (works, services) remains low.

Regionally, the largest share of small businesses in the import of products (works, services) falls on Surkhandarya (88.2%), Ferghana (81.5%), Kashkadarya (73.8%), Syrdarya (73.7%), Namangan (70.2%), Jizzakh (59.5%) region and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (57.4%).

Entrepreneurial activity (small business) is an initiative activity carried out by business entities in accordance with the law, aimed at generating income (profit) at their own risk and under their own property responsibility.

In January-December 2023, the share of small businesses in the total volume of passenger traffic was 91.6%. For January-December 2022, its growth rate was 2.0%.

In total, 19,075 small enterprises and micro-firms took part in the survey, of which 7,291 (38.2%) subjects assessed the economic situation as favorable, 10,369 (54.4%) as satisfactory, and 1,415 (7.4%) – as unsatisfactory.

By type of economic activity, the share of small enterprises and micro-firms participating in the sample survey was in trade - 40.1% (7,654 units), in the service sector - 30.9% (5,891 units), in industry - 14.9% (2,833 units), construction - 7.9% (1,502 units), as well as in agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 6.3% (1,195 units).

In turn, the share of enterprises that assessed the economic situation as unsatisfactory in 2018 was 7.1%. During January-December 2023, this figure increased by 0.4 percentage points. and amounted to 7.5%.

Along with this, the number of enterprises expecting a worsening economic situation in 2018 amounted to 938 units. During January-December 2023, this figure increased by 1,674 units. and amounted to 2,612 units.

Also, the share of enterprises that do not expect any changes in the economic situation, unchanged in 2018, amounted to 28.3%, and in January-December, the worsening of 2023, their share increased by 17.8 percentage points. and amounted to 46.1%.

Meanwhile, the share of enterprises expecting a worsening economic situation in 2018 was 1.9%. In 2023, this figure increased by 1.4 percentage points. and amounted to 3.3%.

According to the results of a survey conducted in the fourth quarter of 2023, it was found that the largest share of small enterprises and micro-firms that assessed the current economic situation as favorable fell on trade enterprises - 39.7%, services - 38.6% and construction - 36 ,9 %. The largest share of enterprises that assessed the economic situation as satisfactory was noted in agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 57.6%, industry - 55.6% and construction - 55.0%.

A significant proportion of enterprises that assessed the economic situation as unsatisfactory were noted in industry - 8.6%, construction - 8.1%, as well as in agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 7.9%.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, the largest share of small enterprises and micro-firms that noted an improvement in the prospects for changes in the economic situation over the next three months was: in construction - 51.3%, trade - 50.2% and industry - 49.8%.

Also, the share of enterprises that do not expect any changes in the future for the next three months was: in agriculture, forestry and fisheries - 48.7%, in the service sector - 47.4%, in industry - 46.5%.

The share of enterprises that noted a deterioration in the prospects for changes in the next three months was: in industry - 3.7%, in the service sector - 3.7%, and in construction - 3.5%.
