South Korea allocates US$6.7 million for the development of the phytosanitary service of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- South Korea has donated more than US$20 million to Uzbekistan for projects in three areas - the development of a phytosanitary service, greening cities and the openness of parliament, Dunyo news agency reported.

According to the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan, US$6.7 million has been allocated to develop the potential of the phytosanitary service and improve border checkpoints for plant quarantine in Uzbekistan. capacity of quarantine officials, development of training manuals and provision of equipment to reduce the risk of pest infestation, facilitate the import and export of agricultural products by strengthening the capacity of plant quarantine during 2023-2025.

In particular, the project provides:

– development of teaching aids in 8 areas;

— advanced training of managerial personnel and specialists in South Korea;

– providing the necessary equipment for 6 border checkpoints for plant quarantine, 5 regional laboratories, as well as the Research Institute for Plant Quarantine and Protection.

In July 2022, South Korea allocated more than US$21 million to Uzbekistan to create on the territory of the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture (AKIS): a training center for advanced technologies in horticulture of Uzbekistan (US$3.7 million); the innovation center of industrial technologies of "smart agriculture" of Uzbekistan (US $14 million); center for the production of seedlings and agricultural products (US $3.7 million). The National Center will also train IT specialists and highly qualified trainers to work with software, develop software for modern greenhouses.
