Saytiev won his third gold medal of Olympic Games. Saytiev was the winner for the event in the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and as well as the 2004 Athens Games. Saytiev also became the first freestyle wrestler representing Russia to win three Olympic gold medals.

Soslan Tigiev, 25, defeated Gheorghita Stefan from Romania, Emzarios Bentinidis from Greece and Murad Gaidarov from Belarus on his way to the final.

Currently, Uzbekistan has five medals - two silver and three bronze medals. Uzbekistan claimed these medals in judo, trampoline and parallel bars along with wrestling.
