Some assessments of the foreign policy priorities of the Arab countries and Turkey

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A number of experts, including European, analyzing the foreign policy of the countries of the Middle East region in the light of the signing of the peace agreement between the UAE and Israel, they come to the conclusion that the confrontation with Israel is no longer the main priority for most Arab countries of the Persian Gulf. One of the main directions of the foreign policy of these states, along with Iran, is the issue of countering Turkey’s regional ambitions.

The possible joining of Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia in the process of Israel’s recognition in the near future will quickly change the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.

Experts note that the shift in the vector of priorities in the foreign policy of the Arab countries also affects the development of the situation in the eastern Mediterranean. The above agreement creates the preconditions for strengthening the potential of the so-called. anti-Turkish axis with the participation of some Arab and European countries (Egypt, UAE, KSA, France, Greece, Cyprus), as well as Israel. This group of countries is formed on the basis of common interests in the confrontation with Turkey on the issues of the Libyan crisis, gas production on the Mediterranean shelf, etc.

France, which has announced an increase in its military presence in the Mediterranean and has already conducted joint maneuvers with Greece, is joining the anti-Turkish axis and becoming its central element. For Paris, Ankara poses a danger to the fact that it began to expand and deepen its influence in areas of Africa that are in the sphere of French interests.

The agreements between the UAE and Israel will contribute to the consolidation of the anti-Turkish bloc into a more cohesive unit, with the participation of a nuclear-armed France in it.

In general, according to experts, the Israeli-Emirates agreement changes the balance of power and poses a serious threat to Turkey’s interests in the region. Ankara is aware of this and is taking measures to strengthen its military-political positions.

The latest steps to create a naval base in Misrata and an air base in Al Watia in Libya are countermeasures to changing the situation in the region and are designed to strengthen Ankara’s position in the Eastern Mediterranean, to provide additional leverage against Arab and European opponents in the region.
