Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The proposal by an entrepreneur to establish orchards on undeveloped land received support during the President’s visit to Ferghana Region in June 2020.
This agricultural project is currently being implemented in several stages. Over the first two years, 450 hectares of intensive orchards have been established with drip irrigation systems installed. Soon, export-oriented varieties of cherries and peaches will begin bearing fruit.
During today’s visit, the President inspected the orchards of the joint venture "Uz-Segang" and discussed issues and suggestions with the entrepreneur.
The enterprise has been allocated approximately 2,000 hectares of land in Kuva District and 1,600 hectares in the city of Quvasoy.
Within the next two years, an additional 980 hectares of intensive orchards will be developed on these newly reclaimed lands. Ecotourism and logistics centers will also be launched. Importantly, this expansion will create 200 permanent and 3,000 seasonal jobs.
Last year, the enterprise harvested 1,700 tons of cherries, peaches, and pomegranates from farms and households, exporting products worth over US$5 million. This year, the goal is to increase exports to US$15 million.
The enterprise is not limited to fruit cultivation and export. Advanced technologies from Italy, Turkiye, South Korea, and China have been implemented for storage, processing, and packaging of products.
The President emphasized the need to increase the number of such projects and expressed readiness to support any proposals. A presentation of the region’s agricultural products took place here, outlining further plans in the sector.
The region currently boasts 48,300 hectares of orchards and vineyards, including 3,400 hectares of intensive orchards. Over the past four years, 6,400 hectares of orchards and 2,900 hectares of vineyards have been established. Drip irrigation systems have been implemented on 1,400 hectares.
This year, an additional 3,400 hectares of intensive orchards and vineyards will be created, along with 2,400 jobs.
Thus concluded President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Ferghana Region.
