Some 13,000 taxis operate in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Currently, there are 13,000 taxis operate in Uzbekistan. Some 200 specialized taxi parking sights were constructed in the country, Pravda Vostoka reported.

The Government of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution “On measures on ordering activity of taxies” from 18 May 2011, which approved a regulation on single identifying signs for taxies and requirements on organization of their activities.

From 1 January 2012, taxies in yellow colour should run in all regions of Uzbekistan and “ivory” colour for Tashkent city. Taxies should have special identifying signs and meet all design requirements.

So, taxies should have TAXI mark with orange color lamp, installed on the roof of the car, “T” letter in front doors with the name of the company.

Internal design of taxies also changed significantly. There should be a board with the car number, information about owner and driver, cost of transportation for 1 km and other information. The cars should be equipped with taxi meters, radio communication equipment, POS-terminals.

First deputy chairperson of the Department on licensing and coordinating movement of passenger transport of Tashkent city administration Yusupdjan Aripdjanov said that there are norms on optimal number of taxis in the cities.

In line with these norms, three-four taxis should fell to each 1,000 citizen. He said based on these figures, Tashkent city needs 9,000-10,000 taxis. Currently, there are 1,900 taxis, Tashkent official said. He added that large part of 134 taxi enterprises fell to share of small enterprises.

At the same time, he said that only 50 taxis meet requirements. He said that taxi meters are expansive. The cost of one meter is between 650,000 soums and 1 million soums. Yusupdjan Aripdjanov underlined that there are 70 taxis, which have POS-terminals, in Tashkent. He added that their number will grow in near future.

He added that there is agreement with GM Uzbekistan on supply of over 1,000 taxis with taxi meters to Tashkent.
