Solid start for Djeparov
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Former AFC Player of the Year Server Djeparov made a solid start to his spell in Korea on Wednesday as the former Bunyodkor star made his debut in FC Seoul’s 4-2 extra-time win over Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the semi-final of the K-League Cup.

The Uzbek international, who is on loan from the big-spending Tashkent giants entered the fray in the 57th minute but it Montenegrin striker Dejan Damjanovic and Lee Sueng-ryul who stole the show with two goals each as FC Seoul scored twice in extra-time to see of the challenge of the 2010 AFC Champions League quarter-finalists.

"It was real football festival between two strong rivals and there were many goals and good performances from both teams," FC Seoul coach Nelo Vingada said after doubles from Damjanovic (57th and 110th) and Lee (82nd and 115th) cancelled out Yeom Ki-hoon’s 27th minute opener and an own goal from Seoul defender Kim Jin-kyu in the 62nd minute.

The Portuguese tactician admitted he liked what he saw from Djeparov but insisted that the 27-year-old veteran of seven AFC Champions League campaigns is not just going to walk into his starting 11.

"He has to fight for his position because we already have a strong team squad," Vingada remarked.

"But I knew he was very good player back when I was a coach of the Jordan national team coach. He proved his class tonight and I am sure he will be able to help the team."
