Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 October 2019, a Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to develop rugby in the Republic of Uzbekistan” was adopted. Today, the National Olympic Committee held an extended meeting on the implementation of the measures set forth in this decree.

The event was held by the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the head of the Rugby Federation Sodik Safoev. It was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Oybek Kasimov, representatives from all regions of our region, as well as from the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

At the beginning of the meeting, a Roadmap for the development of rugby for 2019-2022 was presented and the nature of the decree was mentioned.

“The adoption of the decree on the development of rugby has pleased us very much, but in turn, this places a great responsibility on our shoulder. For its development, first of all, it is necessary to strengthen the material and technical base of the team, ensure its dynamic development, and also, using all the opportunities to form teams that will be able to adequately act on behalf of Uzbekistan throughout the world. By the end of the year you need to make up teams in each area. In addition, women's, men's and youth rugby teams will be formed - 15 and rugby - 7. The main goal before us is to win a license for the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris. I sincerely believe that if we work together, we will undoubtedly achieve great results,” Sodik Safoev said.

During the meeting, goals for the development of rugby in each region and measures to solve and eliminate existing problems were also outlined.
