Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A small hydropower plant, "Zarchob-2A," has been commissioned at the Tupolang Reservoir cascade in the Surkhandarya region, the regional administration announced.
With a design capacity of 3 MW, the plant will produce 13.3 million kWh of environmentally friendly energy annually, sufficient to supply electricity to 6,000 households in the region.
The launch of this small hydropower station will save up to 4 million cubic meters of natural gas annually.
The construction cost of the power plant amounted to US$3.4 million. Notably, in August 2024, the "Zarchob-1A" small hydropower plant was launched, and construction is currently underway for the "Zarchob-3" hydropower plant, which will feature a 16 MW hydro unit.
According to the regional khokimiyat, by the end of 2025, the total capacity of all power stations at the Tupolang Reservoir cascade is expected to reach 300 MW. Over the past eight years, the production of environmentally friendly energy in the region has increased twentyfold.
