Small businesses of Uzbekistan export goods, services for US$323.8m
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Small businesses of Uzbekistan produced 38% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2010 compared to 36.2% in January-March 2009.

The sector provided jobs 8.41 million people or 74.3% of all employed in economy, while individual sector employed 6.582 million people. The small enterprises and microfirms provided jobs to 1.828 million people.

The small businesses produced industrial goods for 1.173 trillion soums, which is 15.8% of all industrial output of Uzbekistan. The growth rate made up 25.9% year-on-year.

The small enterprises used investments for 621.8 billion soums in 2009, which was 21.4% of total investments used in Uzbekistan in the reporting period. The sector carried out construction works for 676.9 billion soums, which made up 39.2% of total construction works. The growth rate comprised 23.7% year-on-year.

This sector ensured growth of goods turnover by motor transport by 8.2% (73.7% of total goods turnover in Uzbekistan), passenger turnover by 8.2% (84.4% of total passenger turnover).

Small businesses formed 48.5% of total retail trade turnover of Uzbekistan or 2.141 trillion soums (up 22.1%) and paid services – 39.9% or 614.5 billion soums (up 17.8%).

The sector exported products for US$323.8 million in 2009 (12% of total exports), which grew by 7.6% year-on-year, and imported products for US$581.6 million (35.9% of total imports), which decreased by 44.4% year-on-year.

Number of people, employed by private sector of small businesses, comprised 7.717 million people or 91.8% of total employed in the sector.
