Small businesses provided jobs to 8.209 million persons or 73.5% of total persons, employed in the economy. Individual sector provided jobs to 6.399 million people and small enterprises and microfirms employed 1.81 million persons.
Industrial output of small businesses reached 2.148 trillion soums (16.2% of total industrial production), which grew by 18.3% compared to the same period of 2008.
Small businesses utilized 1.283 trillion soums of investments, which made up 21.3% of the total volume of utilized investments. They executed construction works for1.299 trillion soums (41.5% of total construction works), or grew by 25.5% year-on-year.
About 43.8% of total retail trade turnover in Uzbekistan or 3.207 trillion soums (up 10.7%) and about 43.2% of total paid services or 1.128 trillion soums (up 8%) fell to share of small businesses in January-June 2009.
Exports of small businesses reached US$811.4 million (13.4% of total exports), which increased by 24% year-on-year. Small businesses imported goods for US$2.085 billion (46.7% of total import), which grew by 53.4% year-on-year.
