Six Uzbek Women Arrested in Türkiye for Attempting to Smuggle Gold

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 October, six Uzbek women were arrested at Izmir Airport, Türkiye, for attempting to smuggle 9.2 kilograms of gold concealed within their bodies.

The Anti-Smuggling Unit had received information about the planned illegal transport. The women arrived on a flight from the United Arab Emirates and were apprehended as they exited the airport. A man who had come to meet the women was also arrested.

During a search of the vehicle they intended to use, police found 82 gold bars, each weighing 110 grams, along with 18 gaming consoles and 3 smartphones.

Further medical procedures revealed an additional 84 gold bars of the same weight inside the women, which required surgical intervention for extraction.

The total weight of the confiscated gold reached 18.5 kilograms, with a market value estimated at $1.5 million. All individuals involved were taken into custody.
