Silk Roads exhibition opens in London

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Silk Roads exhibition officially opened in London and will run from 26 September 2024 to 23 February 2025 at the British Museum.

This significant event marks the first collaboration between the British Museum and Uzbekistan’s Culture and Art Development Foundation, following three years of intensive work with Uzbek archives.

Curated by Yu-Ping Luk, the exhibition features more than 300 artifacts from 29 different collections, highlighting the rich cultural exchanges along the Silk Road throughout history.

Among the showcased items are fragments of murals from the palaces of Afrasiab, Varakhsha, and the Kafyr-Kala citadel, as well as household items and chess pieces discovered in the Samarkand region.

Particularly noteworthy are a lidded ossuary, a silver dish with Sogdian inscriptions, and other rare archaeological finds.

Saida Mirziyoeva, an assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, noted that the exhibition presents rare and valuable artifacts from Uzbekistan’s museum collections, showcasing the nation’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

"I am confident that this exhibition will inspire all those interested in the history and culture of the Silk Road and will symbolize our shared efforts to strengthen and develop cultural ties between nations," she added.
