Sherzod Shermatov discusses 5G development and internet quality with Ookla leadership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov held a meeting with Ookla’s President and CEO Stephen Bye, Chief Strategy Officer Chip Strange, and Regional Sales Director for North and Central Asia Victor Zen as part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2025.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of internet infrastructure and the strengthening of quality control over internet services.
A number of key issues were also addressed, including the acceleration of 5G technology deployment in the regions, the testing of innovative technological solutions for mobile operators, and support for their development based on international experience.
Ookla representatives highlighted Uzbekistan’s significant progress in mobile internet speed over recent years.
It was also emphasized during the negotiations that, according to the Speedtest Global Index, Uzbekistan ranked 133rd in 2020, but as of January 2025, the country has climbed to 68th place, improving its position by 65 spots since 2020.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for further cooperation and the implementation of joint projects.
