Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the under-construction chemical technopark in the Karmaninsky district of the Navoi region.
Thanks to its extensive mineral resources, developed infrastructure, and high personnel potential, the Navoi region is a hub for Uzbekistan’s chemical industry. To support new enterprises in the region, a favorable investment climate and conditions for entrepreneurial activities have been established.
On this basis, Chinese investors have begun constructing the chemical technopark named Zarafshon Industrial Technology, for which 130 hectares of land have been allocated. The project aims to implement 18 initiatives with a total cost exceeding US$1 billion.
Currently, two enterprises have already been launched in the technopark, producing 40,000 tons of oleum and 170,000 tons of sulfuric acid. An energy unit with a gas-steam installation of 1.4 megawatts has been built to effectively utilize heat generated during the sulfuric acid production process, allowing the enterprise to fully meet its electricity needs.
The President was also presented with information about new projects planned for the technopark, including the construction of plants for producing 1 million tons of sulfuric acid (US$150 million), 50,000 tons of caustic soda (US$120 million), and 100,000 tons of phthalocyanine (US$135 million).
The technopark is set to implement an efficient system of cooperative production, which will increase product localization for various sectors: US$75 million in construction, US$107 million in the light industry, and US$38 million in the medical field. The current level of localization in the technopark stands at 31 percent, but this figure is expected to double as projects are completed.
The President emphasized the importance of maintaining production balance, concluding offtake contracts, and ensuring guaranteed sales of products.
Currently, 300 people work in the technopark, and upon completion of all projects, over 2,000 jobs will be created. The planned production includes products such as anthraquinone, caustic soda, copper chloride, dimethyl sulfate, sodium sulfide, and resorcinol. The technopark’s annual export potential is expected to reach US$30 million by 2026.
The construction of necessary communications is being financed by foreign investors.
During the visit, a presentation was held regarding the projects that Navoi Azot joint-stock company plans to implement from 2024 to 2030. The program includes 22 projects totaling US$5 billion, which will create 3,000 jobs. It is expected that the annual volume of chemical products will exceed US$2 billion, most of which will be exported.
The President highlighted the importance of adhering to environmental standards and equipping enterprises with technology that minimizes carbon dioxide emissions.
The completion of four major projects is scheduled for next year. The President also met with the investors involved in implementing these projects.
