Shavkat Mirziyoyev visits the Gavhar Group enterprise

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Namangan region today.

First, the head of state visited the Gavkhar Group enterprise the Yangi-Namangan district. This enterprise is capable of industrially producing up to 1,200 kilograms of jewelry per year.

Jewelry making in Uzbekistan has a rich heritage, and in Namangan there were families passing on this art from generation to generation. However, due to the lack of necessary conditions and difficulties in purchasing raw materials, many jewelers stopped their activities, and those who continued made products by hand.

The Presidential Decree from 18 May 2019 “On measures to accelerate the development of the jewelry industry in the Republic of Uzbekistan” provided new opportunities for representatives of this field. The document provided for the right of jewelry manufacturers to purchase scrap precious metals and precious stones, as well as finished products from mining and metallurgical plants and the population, as well as support in attracting technologies and specialists from abroad.

This approach and additional capabilities gave jewelers confidence. One of the results was the creation of the Gavhar Group limited liability company. The company is equipped with modern equipment from Turkiye, Italy, the USA and Germany, and began its operations in 2022.

Today the company produces more than 10 thousand different types of jewelry. In cooperation with foreign partners, the production of high-quality gold watch cases has been organized. In 2023, 270 kilograms of products were produced.

In addition, the company has established the production of products of any shape upon request using 3D modeling.

Purchasing gold on a commodity exchange with deferred payment plays an important role in ensuring the adequacy of working capital and continuity of production.

Another important aspect is the presence of cooperation with local jewelers at the enterprise. Thanks to this, those who previously worked informally came out of the “shadow”, and the number of jobs increased. The company employs more than 100 people, and also provides training for young people in the trade.

The President had a conversation with jewelers working at the enterprise.

He noted: “In our country, 100 tons of gold are mined annually. The sale of gold to entrepreneurs in installments is allowed.

This opportunity is unique in our country and is not available in other countries. However, only 6 percent of mined gold is processed here. We are lagging behind in this area, and therefore we are creating additional conditions for production. This is just the beginning and we will continue to grow this industry.”

The President also exchanged views with Turkish businessmen on issues of improving legislation in this area. In addition, he got acquainted with the products of the limited liability company Mekhmash.

This enterprise annually produces 20 thousand tons of screws and 18 thousand tons of rolling paper, with an export potential of US$6 million. 700 people are employed here.

Instructions were given to expand the production and export of fasteners used in the automotive industry and to expand the number of jobs.
