Shavkat Mirziyoyev holds meeting on Uzbekistan’s defense capabilities

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 21 February, President of Uzbekistan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a meeting focused on strengthening the country’s military security and defense capabilities.

The meeting was attended by members of the Security Council, heads of ministries and agencies within the Armed Forces, commanders of military districts, as well as—via video conference—the chairpersons of the Jokargy Kenes and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional and Tashkent city governors, and other officials.

The session reviewed measures implemented to enhance defense capabilities, assessed their outcomes, and identified existing shortcomings.

It was noted that the national army is being equipped with modern weaponry and technology, while the combat readiness and morale of military personnel have significantly improved. New combat units have been formed to prevent and neutralize internal and external threats, and the organizational structure of the armed forces has been optimized.

As part of the military modernization efforts, the defense industry is expanding, with new enterprises being established. The Armed Forces have developed bilateral military cooperation with over 20 countries and participated in more than 400 joint exercises.

The infrastructure of higher military education institutions has been fully modernized, with programs aligned to meet contemporary requirements.

The social and legal protection of service members and their families has been strengthened. Nearly 30,000 families have received housing, while over 2,000 children of military personnel have been granted university admission benefits.

Special attention has been given to fostering patriotism among youth and improving pre-conscription military training in schools.

Key priorities for 2025 and beyond were outlined, emphasizing the need to consider modern armed conflicts, national security threats, and the characteristics of potential theaters of military operations when developing the army.

Given the increasing use of artificial intelligence, robotics, missiles, drones, and counter-drone technologies, the president instructed the establishment of new military units specializing in drone defense, robotic systems, air defense, and cyber warfare utilizing AI technologies.

The importance of enhancing the army’s combat readiness, implementing AI-driven automated command and control systems, and advancing dual-track education in military training was highlighted.

Other key areas of focus include improving the "Chief Sergeants Corps," strengthening the defense industry, expanding social support for military personnel and their families, and engaging youth in military sports.

During the meeting, reports and proposals were presented by the Minister of Defense, military district commanders, and other responsible officials.
