Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has expressed his condolences to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, following the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan.
In his message, President Mirziyoyev extended his deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to all the injured.
The accident involved an Embraer E190 aircraft operating the Baku-Grozny flight. Due to unfavorable weather conditions in Grozny, the aircraft was rerouted to Makhachkala, and then to Aktau.
The flight was carrying 62 passengers and 5 crew members. At present, 14 emergency medical teams are working at the crash site. The cause of the crash and all the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan reported that 25 people were rescued from the wreckage, 22 of whom were hospitalized for medical treatment.
According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Transport, the passengers on board included 37 citizens of Azerbaijan, 6 citizens of Kazakhstan, 3 citizens of Kyrgyzstan, and 16 citizens of Russia.
