Shavkat Mirziyoyev explained the decision to hold snap presidential elections

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev explained the decision to hold snap presidential elections.

Earlier Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced snap presidential elections.

“Of course, one might wonder what the need for such a solution is. Why am I on my own initiative giving up the remaining three and a half years of my presidential term? Because, as you can see, according to our Basic Law, all branches of power are being reformed first of all, the correlation and balance between them are seriously changing,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The head of Uzbekistan said that the updated Constitution sets new political, social and economic tasks for the president, parliament, government, ministers and khokims, the solution of which cannot be postponed.

“Our people expect from us important and urgent changes and reforms in all areas. In the current situation, when complex processes are observed in the world and in the region, the most pressing issue is the search for the correct and effective way of development and its implementation,” the head of state said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also added that from now on, the only source of state power is the people, as stated in the Constitution.

“From this point of view, in the updated system of state power, it is advisable to give a mandate only to the leader whom our people trust. I think that in today's conditions this will be the most correct and fair decision,” the head of state stressed.
