Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasizes the importance of expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation with the EU
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 18 March, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the European Union led by European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Sikela, who is on a working visit to Uzbekistan.
The meeting focused on key aspects of strengthening the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU.
At the beginning of the discussions, the high-ranking EU representative conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Mirziyoyev on behalf of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa.
Both sides acknowledged the positive dynamics of bilateral relations in recent years, spanning political, trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
It was emphasized that there are significant opportunities for deepening the partnership further, particularly through the swift signing of a new Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU.
Mutual interest was expressed in advancing joint projects and initiatives in transport and logistics, energy, digital technologies, agriculture, and water management, among other priority areas.
Special attention was given to fostering mutually beneficial cooperation in the processing of strategically important mineral resources.
Discussions also covered preparations for the first Central Asia–EU Summit and the Climate Forum, both scheduled to take place in early April in Samarkand.
Additionally, the parties exchanged views on pressing issues of regional cooperation in Central Asia.
