Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 September 2017, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held negotiations with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde in New York (USA).

Uzbek President expressed his satisfaction with the meeting with the head of the IMF. He noted that the IMF plays an important role in improving economic situation in the world.

Christine Lagarde highly appreciated the socio-economic reforms, being conducted in Uzbekistan under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The sides discussed issues on supporting state bodies and commercial banks of Uzbekistan in the process of currency reforms, as well as socially vulnerable segments of the population. The parties also discussed issues related to improvement of tax administration and statistics, as well as execution of the state budget in Uzbekistan.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Christine Lagarde discussed issues on stabilizing the banking sector and liberalizing foreign trade.

The sides exchanged views on expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the IMF, as well as improving the business and investment climate in the country.

Christine Lagarde said that the IMF is ready to support the financial system of Uzbekistan through providing recommendations on economic reforms and technical assistance.
