Shashmaqоm Forever Festival was organized by Fund Forum, the mission of Uzbekistan at the UN, General-Consulate of Uzbekistan at New York, Congress of the Bukharian Jews of the United States and Canada, as well as others.
Prominent maqom masters from Uzbekistan, Israel and the United States participated at the festival. Representatives of Radjabi dynasty, Sodirhon Ubaydullaev, Avrom Tolmasov, Ubaydullo Soliev, Roshel Rubinov and others performed maqom music.
The concert was attended by over 500 guests, including officials and public circles of the Unites States, diplomatic corps, accredited in New York.
After the concerts, maqom masters received diplomas for their contribution to preservation and development of classic music.
Within the festival, an international scientific-practical conference “Shoshmaqom in the 21st century was held. The conference is dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Levich Babahanov.
At the conference, the sides discussed rich heritage of shashmaqom, its development and popularization in the United States, perspectives of its preservation, it history, etc.
Shashmaqom is one of the ancient and unique direction is musical heritage of Central Asia. It consists of six maqoms, each of which represents separate suite. In 2003, shashmaqom was included to the UNECSO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
