Share of tourism in Uzbekistan’s GDP makes up 1.8% in 1H 2011

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Share of tourism sector in gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan made up 1.8% in the first half of 2011, local media reported citing Uzbektourism national company.

According to Uzbektourism, exports of tourism services made up US$226.2 million in the first six months of 2011, which grew by 29.9% year-on-year.

In the first half of 2011, some 71 tourism firms and 29 hotels received licenses to operate in the sector. Currently, there are 782 tourism enterprises, 294 hotels, 450 tourism operators and large number of tourism bases and camps.

Existing recreation resources in Uzbekistan allow to develop all types of tourism. Currently, there are over 4,000 historic and architectural monuments in Uzbekistan, over 90% of them are from Zoroastrianism and Temurids ages.
