Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Competition Development and Consumer Protection Committee of Uzbekistan has proposed re-registering several dietary supplements as medicines, according to the press service of the agency.
The investigation was initiated due to a complaint related to the rehydration solution ORSA by Jurabek Laboratories. Similar products are produced by other manufacturers who register them as dietary supplements with the Ministry of Health’s expert commission.
The Committee noted that the complexity of the drug registration process prompted this move.
Following a review by the Center for Pharmaceutical Product Safety, it was recommended to re-register the dietary supplement Kifti ORSA as a medicinal product.
Additionally, the supervisory authority found incorrect information about the properties and use for treatment or disease prevention in the instructions for several dietary supplements. The products included in the list are ORS by Malika Laboratories, ORSI MAX by Hvara, "Orsasol" by Vitally, and Fita Orsa by Madina Farm Med.
Until the identified deficiencies are addressed, the production of these supplements has been ordered to be suspended, and they have been withdrawn from sale. The sanitary and epidemiological service has been instructed to revoke the permits issued to these manufacturers.
Currently, the Competition Committee is working on holding companies accountable and developing proposals to address systemic issues in the industry.
