Several cities of Uzbekistan have joined the GCOM initiative

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Uzbekistan, since February 2022, the European Union, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, has been implementing the project “Support to the Secretariat of the Global Covenant of Majors for the climate and energy-GCOM”.

The main goal of the GCOM project is to prevent climate change at the level of cities and regions, ensure environmental sustainability, create all the necessary conditions for the population to live in a favorable natural environment, develop a “green” economy and “green” energy.

Through this project, more than 10,000 cities are collaborating with national and international institutions to address the climate and economic crises through local initiatives, innovative financing models and sustainable infrastructure.

This project involves the city of Nukus of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the city of Urgench in the Khorezm region, the city of Bukhara in the Bukhara region, the city of Namangan in the Namangan region and the Guzar district of the Kashkadarya region.

To date, together with international and local EU experts, responsible officials of the relevant authorities and responsible ministries, the volumes of CO2 emissions in each of the 5 cities have been determined and work is being completed to develop a “climate change action plan” in order to reduce them.

On 27-29 September, the next seminar of foreign experts of the European Union was held in the city of Tashkent on the topic of adaptation actions and solutions based on nature, waste and wastewater management, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, determining the scale and structure of climate projects.
