Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 February, seven Uzbek citizens, whom U.S. authorities had initially planned to deport to Costa Rica, arrived in Uzbekistan, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Akhror Burkhanov.
"As a result of negotiations with the American side, on 24 February, seven of our compatriots, who had been scheduled for deportation to Costa Rica but sought to return home, arrived in Tashkent on a flight from New York," the statement read.
In recent weeks, the United States has conducted several deportation flights, sending hundreds of migrants from Asian countries, including Uzbekistan, to Panama and Costa Rica.
Commenting on the situation, Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry stated that it remains in constant contact with U.S. and Latin American authorities to ensure the safe return of Uzbek nationals. The ministry emphasized that Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions in the U.S. are ready to provide comprehensive assistance to citizens in any circumstances.
